Summary:            This is a new and challenging area of education in our homeland. The main purpose of this unit is to enhance the ability of high achieving students to reach their true potential in their area of interest. We believe that this program will help students to open up their creative ability and change their way of thinking to make a difference to our society.

Though, this is a small step towards producing a future inventor, mathematician, scientist or a great leader, we believe it is worth encouraging this area of development within our school community to develop a prosperous and capable generation who can compete at world stage.

As part of this program, monthly seminars and research workshops will be conducted by industry experts, University Academics and Professionals. This will create opportunities for students to acquire broader knowledge and skills in their younger age to pursue their dream.

Equipping Laboratories - 2016

This year our OBA Victoria has committed to provide necessary equipment’s to Physics, Chemistry & Biology Laboratories. Our school administration in Jaffna has indicated that there are continuing need for new materials including chemicals & lab equipments to perform important practicals in the laboratories. Since good practical experiences are critical for the development of students mainly in their year 11 & 12, we believe that this is a worthwhile investment for our students.

Therefore, this year we committed to fund around Rs. 900,000/- (AU$9,000) for these projects. The school administration will provide all necessary maintenance support to keep these laboratories function well.

Chemistry Lab Upgrade and Expansion - 2014

Essential equipment, Glassware and chemicals were supplied to the ‘A’ level chemistry to facilitate the educational needs for our students. The total cost of this project was SLR 761,263.50 (AUD $6,260.00) including SLR 372,257.50 for the chemicals, and SLR 173878.50 for glassware and SLR 215,127.50 for permanent equipment.

Benefits to Students

The facilities provided by the OBA Victoria to the chemistry laboratory extends the students scientific learning experience on various types of chemical, material and process science experiments. These facilities will also enhance the learning method and provide more hands-on experience to our students. Having the chemistry laboratory with essential modern equipment and facilities, will help in preparing our students with high calibre knowledge and give them a preferable learning environment. We believe this project can make a positive impact on the involvement and educational performances of our student. Where our “INTHU ANNAI” always proud of!
