In the mid 90’s, JHC OBA Victoria started Eight (8) a side 8 over tennis ball cricket tournament inviting all other old boys associations in Melbourne. It is a one-day event generally stage in early January (during our summer holiday time). The purpose of this tournament is to bring all other old boys associations together and create a similar sporting atmosphere we used to have in our school days and develop friendship with other old boys associations in Victoria.
Generally, twelve (12) teams register for this tournament and over 120 people participate in the event. Free BBQ lunch and drinks are served to all players and spectators to make the event as enjoyable as possible for all. Over the last five years, we have reformed this tournament to Six (6) a side 5 over big bash hard ball cricket tournament inviting all cricket clubs in Melbourne (mainly Tamil clubs). The purpose of this change is to bring young talents from mainly Tamil cricketers living in Melbourne. Sixteen (16) teams participate every year and the standard of cricket is extremely high. In 2013, we introduced price money for the winners and runners to encourage wider participation and it has been a great success so far.
